Genesys Cloud CX: Contact Center Administration Training

In Genesys Cloud CX, the core region and satellite region are terms related to data residency and voice/media traffic handling, particularly in the context of multinational deployments.

🔷 Core Region

  • Definition: This is the primary region where an organization’s Genesys Cloud CX environment is hosted.

  • Functionality:

    • Hosts the full Genesys Cloud platform services (ACD, routing, IVR, reporting, etc.).

    • All configuration, administration, and long-term data storage (recordings, analytics, etc.) occur here.

    • It’s tied to the main tenant (organization).

  • Voice Media: Media is processed in-region, unless configured otherwise (via Edge or BYOC).

🔸 Satellite Region

  • Definition: A region geographically separate from the core, added to support local voice media processing while still being part of the core region’s org.

  • Functionality:

    • Helps to reduce latency and optimize call quality for agents/users in that region.

    • No full Genesys Cloud services run here — it simply enables media localization (like RTP).

  • Voice Media: Voice traffic is handled locally, while signaling and control still route back to the core region.

  • Data Residency: All core services (storage, reporting, etc.) still happen in the core region.
